It looks like those evil tax evaders are at it again. Crafty citizens have come up with a way to avoid paying their "fair share". While a few True Believers are doing their part to help Mother Earth by driving more fuel efficient cars, despicable anti-government zealots have begun to do the same. That is the only excuse I can come up with. Otherwise States like Oregon wouldn't be losing highway money do to fewer gas taxes paid from hybrid cars. This is most definitely a Bush conspiracy; while he warned us about economic disaster from the NECESSARY efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, he never said anything about lost tax revenue. It is quite obvious he kept this a secret so people "in the know" would be able to purchase hybrids and cheat the Government. Fortunately Oregon has a plan. They propose putting little black boxes on all private autos to track the mileage driven so everyone can be taxed according to how much they actually drive. While I applaud their efforts, it seems to me only a short term solution to an ongoing problem. There have always been elements in our society who wrongfully feel the money they earn is "theirs". What happens when these conniving f***ers start taking the bus? or riding a bike? or, in any way driving less? The good news is I have a Permanent Solution: Instead of INDIVIDUALS receiving money for working, GOVERNMENT gets it. ALL of it. Right to the IRS. Then at the end of the month a trustworthy, efficient and caring bureaucrat decides how much somebody actually deserves and cuts them a check. Plus, this eliminates the black boxes. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that they could be used to track the comings and goings and whereabouts of people. Which is OK until that somebody is a terrorist. Then civil rights have been violated.
